I still remember watching someone throw a pot on a potter’s wheel when I was 5 years old. Watching the clay take shape felt magical then, and it’s still magical to me today. From the first time I sat down at a potter’s wheel, I was hooked!

Since then, I’ve had the privilege of studying with many talented and inspiring clay artists, including Silvie Granatelli, Bruce Gholson, Warren Mackenzie, Michael Simon, Mark Hewitt, Steve Braufman, Ben Owen, Charlie Riggs, Paul Soldner, David Shaner, Steven Hill, Suzanne Stephenson, Jeff Oestreich, Tom and Elaine Coleman, and Xavier Gonzales.

For more than 12 years, I taught beginning and advanced wheel classes at the Durham Arts Council. I also taught workshops in Walnut Creek, CA in 2000 and 2002. In 2003, I had the opportunity to exhibit my work in Numazu, Japan.

When I exhibit my pottery, You’ll always find “Please Touch” signs on my shelves. Pottery is meant to be experienced fully. I hope my pots invite you to pick them up and notice the shape, the surface texture, the color, and how they feel in your hands.

I love making pots and the process of turning a simple chunk of clay into something both beautiful and useful. One of the greatest pleasures of making pottery is knowing that it becomes part of someone else’s home and everyday life.

That sense of magic I discovered so long ago has never left and is still there every time I sit down at my wheel.
